How long more should Aminu Tambuwal remain as governor of Sokoto State?

This and some other issues are what a Federal High Court sitting in a Abuja would determine in the days ahead.

However, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State began his defence Tuesday on a rather flamboyant note. Accompanied by 35 lawyers, he stormed the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court seeking to quash the suit that aims to sack him from office.

Filed by Senator Umar Dahiru, the suit alleges that Tambuwal was illegally nominated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to contest for the gubernatorial seat in the 2015 election.

Dahiru wants the courts to return him as the authentic gubernatorial candidate of the APC at the 2015 poll.

Tambuwal, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives and a Peoples Democratic Party stalwart, defected to APC in 2014.

Dahiru’s early attempt to sack Tambuwal from office met with little success as victory at the High Court was upturned by an Appeal Court. The Supreme Court, however, in a judgment on December 9, 2016, held that Dahiru had a valid case against Tambuwal and direct d that the case be heard afresh on its merit by the high court
