Morocco-based Oyinlomo Quadre is set to defend her Girls 16 title at the MP Tiger Junior Tennis Championship.

The tournament, which will hold between June 13 and 17, will take place at the Lagos Country Club, Ikeja with some of the country’s best junior players battling for honours.

According to tournament coordinator, Paul Moses, the players will compete in four categories; the U-10, U-12,U-14 and U-16.

Moses said in a statement during the week that the players would be divided into two groups of four players with the top two players in each group qualifying for the semifinals of the clay court invitational tournament.

Some of the players that will feature in the tournament are Quadre, who is scheduled to arrive from Morocco on Saturday, Angel McLeod, Marylove Edward, Lolade Holmes, Reya Holmes, Serena Teluwo, Filipo Troimbi, Gideon Aluko, Olamide Aluka and Kareem Kareem Jnr.

The duo Venus Ubiebi and Toyin Asogba, who recently returned from the second phase of a training tour of US, were also listed for action. Also featuring in the event are 2016 Africa Junior Championship U-14 silver medalist Michael Osewa, Saminu Abubakar,  Musa Sani, Christopher Bulus, Michael Ayoola among others.

Moses, who is a UK Professional Tennis Registry-certified coach, noted that the tournament helped some of the country’s junior players to achieve success last year.

“The impact of this tournament on some of our junior players, who excelled last year at the continental level is still visible. Specifically,  Oyinlomo Quadre won the girls U-16 and the following week, she played for Nigeria in a tournament in Tunisia, where her performance led to an award of scholarship by ITF,” he stated.
